As the weather heats up, it's a great time to ensure your home is in top condition. Regular maintenance not only keeps your living space comfortable, enjoyable and safe but also helps to preserve the value of your home. Here are some essential summer maintenance tips to keep your home running smoothly during the warm months:

1. Service Your Air Conditioning

  • Schedule a Professional Checkup - Ensure your AC unit is working efficiently to keep your home cool

  • Clean or Replace Filters - Clean filters improve air quality and efficiency

2. Check Windows and Doors

  • Inspect Seals and Weatherstripping - Replace any worn-out weatherstripping to keep the cool air in and hot air out

  • Clean Windows - Remove dirt and debris to maximize natural light

3. Balcony, Porch and Outdoor Space Care

  • Inspect for Structural Issues - Look for any signs of wear and tear or damage on your balcony or porch

  • Clean Outdoor Furniture - Use mild soap and water to clean furniture and prevent mildew

4. Power Wash Your Siding

  • Regular power washing helps maintain your home's exterior, keeping it looking fresh and preventing the buildup of dirt, mold, and mildew

5. Plumbing Check

  • Inspect Pipes and Faucets - Check for leaks, especially in less frequently used areas

  • Clean Drains - Use environmentally friendly methods to clear slow drains and prevent clogs

6. Clean and Inspect Vents

  • Remove Dust and Debris - Use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to thoroughly clean vent covers and ducts of dust and debris that has accumulated

  • Inspect for Mold and Mildew - In humid conditions, consider using a dehumidifier to prevent the growth of mold and mildew

7. Electrical System Maintenance

  • Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors - Ensure they are functioning properly for safety

  • Inspect Cords and Outlets - Check for any damage to prevent electrical fires

8. Pest Control

  • Seal Entry Points - Check and seal any gaps or cracks where pests can enter

  • Keep Areas Dry - Eliminate standing water and fix leaks to prevent insect breeding grounds

9. Paint Touch-Ups

  • Refresh Walls and Trim - Summer is a great time for minor paint jobs to keep your home looking fresh

10. General Decluttering

  • Organize Storage Areas - Clear out items you no longer need, making space and reducing dust accumulation

  • Deep Clean - Take advantage of the good weather to deep clean your home

11. Clean Grill

  • Scrub the grates, scrape off any built-up grease and debris from the interior surfaces, check and clean burners, and wipe down the exterior using a cloth and a mild cleaning solution

12. Safety Preparations

  • Prepare for Storms - Ensure you have emergency supplies ready and that your insurance is up to date

Let's get ready for the cookouts and barbeques!
